How to install WaveBlock SafeWall™
Start here for a smooth, seamless install. Most rooms go up in an afternoon with two people, a squeegee, and a sharp blade.
How to use it
Shield the walls that matter most — not every wall.
The idea is simple: instead of shielding a whole room, you treat the walls that matter most — the ones closest to where you sleep, work, or where your kids spend their time.
Most people put WaveBlock SafeWall™ on the wall behind the head of their bed, a wall they share with a neighbor or a busy office, or a wall with a lot of electronics and wiring behind it. You shield where you spend hours at close range, and the rest of your home stays connected and normal.
If you want a space with almost no EMF — like a nursery or a quiet room — you can cover all the walls. That's your choice, for rooms where you don't need Wi-Fi.
You don't have to make this complicated.
You can ground WaveBlock SafeWall™ for a little extra performance, but you don't have to. The difference is small, and it works great either way.
You can also run the wall covering behind your baseboards and crown molding to get as close as possible to a complete seal. To do that, you'd remove the molding, apply it edge to edge, and put the molding back. If that sounds like a hassle, skip it. Applied right over the wall, you'll still remove the vast majority of the radiation coming through — you'll just leave a little at the very edges.
The goal isn't a perfect, complicated installation. It's peace of mind, the easy way.
The one rule that's different from regular wall covering
WaveBlock SafeWall™ panels are installed with a 1/2" to 1" overlap at every seam — never a butt seam. That continuous overlap is what keeps the EMF shielding unbroken across the wall. More than 1" is overkill; less than 1/2" risks a gap.
Before you start
Gather your supplies
- Squeegee or smoothing tool
- X-Acto / utility knife
- Level + straight ruler
- Painter's tape
- Sanding block or scraper
- Spray bottle (water)
- Tape measure
- Soft microfiber cloth
Step one
Prep your walls

Let new paint cure
If the wall was painted in the last 30 days, wait until the paint is fully cured before installing. Use a satin or eggshell finish — flat / matte paints can lift when WaveBlock SafeWall™ is removed. If you're unsure about the paint, install one panel and wait two weeks before finishing the rest.

Clean the wall
Wipe the wall with a soft cloth and a 70% isopropyl alcohol / 30% water mix. Let dry fully, then repeat up to three times. The wall must be clean, dry, and dust-free.

Smooth out bumps
Use a sanding block or scraper to knock down any drywall snags, paint drips, or texture. WaveBlock SafeWall™ adheres best to a smooth, flat surface.

Lay out your panels
Unroll your panels and lay them out in order. Confirm you have enough length for the tallest point of the wall, plus 2–3 inches of trim allowance at the top and bottom.

Mark a level vertical line
Use a level to draw a vertical pencil line 23 inches in from the left edge of your wall. This gives your first 24-inch-wide panel a guide while leaving room for the 1/2" to 1" overlap on the next seam. Remove outlet and vent covers before you start.
Step two
Hang the panels

Hang the first panel
Peel back the top 12 inches of backing. Align the panel's right edge with your level line and press the top to the wall, leaving about 2 inches of overhang at the ceiling. Smooth from the center outward with the squeegee, peeling the backing down as you go.

Overlap each seam by 1/2" to 1"
Important — WaveBlock SafeWall™ panels are installed with an overlap, not a butt seam. Position the next panel so its left edge overlaps the previous panel's right edge by 1/2" to 1" (no more). This continuous overlap is what keeps the EMF shielding unbroken across the wall.

Smooth as you go
Work from the center of each panel outward with the squeegee to push out any air bubbles. If you trap a small bubble, lift the panel back to that point and reapply — the adhesive is forgiving for the first install.

Trim the top and bottom
Once a panel is smooth and aligned, use the ruler and X-Acto knife to trim flush at the ceiling, baseboard, and any outlets. Replace the blade often — a sharp blade makes a clean cut and prevents tearing.

Repeat across the wall
Continue panel by panel, always keeping the 1/2" to 1" overlap. At outside corners, wrap the panel around by 1 inch and start the next panel on the new wall directly over that wrap.
Step three
Finish and set

Final smoothing pass
Run the squeegee over every seam one more time, applying firm even pressure. Pay extra attention to the overlap lines — that's where shielding continuity lives.

Reinstall covers
Put outlet plates, switch plates, and vent covers back on. Use a fresh blade to cut tight, clean openings.
- 03
Let it set for 24 hours
Avoid touching, washing, or hanging anything heavy on the wall for the first 24 hours so the adhesive can fully bond.
