The science, in plain terms

Your phone, your Wi-Fi router, your smart devices — they all give off energy called EMF radiation. You can't see it or feel it, but your body absorbs some of it. How much depends on how deeply it penetrates — and how long you're near it.

How deep it goes

The radiation that reaches you doesn't just bounce off your skin — some of it passes into your body. How deep it goes depends on the frequency. Cell frequencies go in the deepest. Wi-Fi doesn't reach as far. Very high-frequency waves above 6 GHz are absorbed much closer to the skin surface.15

So why the bed wall?

It's where you're closest, for the longest. And while the long-term science isn't settled, the World Health Organization's cancer research arm (IARC) classifies this kind of radiation as "possibly carcinogenic to humans" — Group 2B.4 The evidence is limited and a causal link can't be ruled out, which is exactly why reducing your exposure where it's easy is common sense. Your bed is the easiest place to start.

How the technology works

Most of the radiation in your home comes from wireless devices.

Wi-Fi routers, cell phones, smart devices, and the equipment in the homes and offices around you. These travel through the air as electromagnetic field (EMF) energy, and they pass straight through ordinary drywall as if it weren't there.

WaveBlock SafeWall™ changes that. Built into the wall covering is an ultra-thin conductive shielding layer. When EMF energy reaches it, most of the energy is reflected back, and the rest is absorbed and dissipated inside the layer. Very little makes it through to the other side. It's the same principle that protects sensitive electronics and secure facilities, engineered into a wall covering you can put up yourself.

Grounding the layer gives the absorbed energy a path to flow away, which is why a grounded wall tests slightly higher. It's a small gain, and WaveBlock SafeWall™ performs at nearly the same level either way.

The result, independently measured: up to 98.9% ungrounded, and up to 99.3% grounded. Tested at TÜV SÜD, an FCC-accredited laboratory in the United States.
